This series begins intuitively. Each bookmark is painted spontaneously; allowing imagery to surface through process rather than structure. The looseness is intentional, shaped by years of training that make space for the artist’s creative instinct.
Rebecca McKelvie applies acrylic in blocky, chalky, uneven coats, letting variation in coverage and shifts in colour remain visible. She then returns with pen, tracing edges, emphasizing blotches, and highlighting where the paint thins or pools. Rather than smoothing imperfections, she draws attention to them; encouraging the natural, unpolished quality of both ink and surface.
Subjects range from stormy skies to cactuses, small landscapes, florals, and eclectic everyday objects. Each piece is titled and signed on the back, making every bookmark a small original work.
